Dean Kamen is an example of someone who’s uninterested in the opinions of people who say it can’t be done.
He specializes in doing things that others say is impossible.
When he invented the Segway and released it in 2001, it was received in awe. Not only because some had said such a vehicle was impossible, but because many people had never considered that a “human transporter” could be so simple. Before he invented the AutoSyringe, no one had considered how to make it easier for diabetic patients to go through their day without the hassles of having to stop for frequent insulin injections. Dean Kamen saw it differently.
“Don’t tell me it’s impossible,” says Dean Kamen, “tell me you can’t do it. Tell me it’s never been done. Because the only real laws in this world are Maxwell’s equations, the three laws of Newton, the two postulates of relativity, and the periodic table. That’s all we know that’s true. All the rest are man’s laws…”
And if you ask him, he’d probably say that it’s not that he’s necessarily smarter than everyone else. It’s that he’s chosen to see things differently than everyone else who looks at the same problems.
This is what we mean by an “entrepreneurial way of life”. It’s being “at cause” for your own experience whether that’s making money, achieving success, creating financial independence, being a better Mom or Dad, improving your relationships….anything.
It’s all about choosing to see things differently. And being someone — like Dean Kamen — who simply refuses to believe that things can’t be done.
How many impossible things will YOU choose do this year?

Nothing is impossible! (Except, as my 7 year old reminds me, dividing by zero…
